Sharing updates during hospice and end-of-life care
June 17, 2026
When someone you love enters hospice, the circle of people who care gets wide, and the updates get harder to write. You are holding a lot: grief that has already started, logistics that do not stop, and a phone full of people who love them and do not know what to say.
This is one of the hardest things a family goes through, and the telling should not add to it. Here is a gentle way to keep everyone close without it asking more of you.
One quiet place, so you are not retelling it
In these weeks, retelling the news is its own kind of pain. Every "how is she?" asks you to say it again. A single update page lets you write what is happening once, and let the people who love them read it on their own time.
She's comfortable and resting. The hospice team has been gentle and kind. We're staying close. Thank you for holding us in your thoughts.
You write it once. The people who care absorb it quietly, without you having to carry each conversation.
Short is enough. Silence is allowed.
There is no right length and no schedule. Some days you will want to share a small moment, a favorite song she asked for, a good afternoon, a visit from an old friend. Other days you will have no words, and that is completely okay. The page waits for you. You owe it nothing.
If words are hard, you can post a photo or a short voice note instead. Sometimes that says more than a paragraph could.
Coordinate visits without becoming the scheduler
Near the end, many people want to come and say goodbye, and they all ask you when. That coordination can become its own exhausting job. UpdatesOn has a built-in visiting schedule: you set the windows that work, and people sign up themselves. You can keep the visits gentle and spaced without fielding a dozen "when can I come?" messages. We wrote more about coordinating visits without the back-and-forth if that would help.
Let people send love when they don't know what to say
So many people want to reach out and freeze, afraid of saying the wrong thing. On a quiet page, they can leave a small reaction, a heart, a hand held across the distance, without needing the perfect words. You feel the love around you, and no one has to perform it.
Keep it private and tender
This is the most personal news a family ever shares. An UpdatesOn page is not indexed by search engines and is not listed anywhere. The link is the only way in, so these days stay held among the people you choose.
You don't have to carry the telling alone
You already have more than enough to hold. If letting one link do the telling would ease even a little of the weight, you can create a page here, gently, whenever you are ready.
For other seasons this fits, see who UpdatesOn is for.
